Montgomery – the capital of Alabama – is a vibrant, diverse city with a deep, rich and thriving history. There are a plethora of restaurants, entertainment venues, and an amphitheatre which hosts concerts, plays and special events.

AUM consists of two Colleges – business and arts & sciences – and two Schools – education and nursing – which offer programmes of study leading to bachelor's, master's, and specialist degrees in business, education, liberal arts, nursing, and sciences.

AUM's College of Business performs well compared to similar institutions in world rankings.

The university offers annual activities to students including the AUMFest, which is held every Autumn for both new and returning students, AUM Homecoming, which involves a pep rally and homecoming basketball games for alumni, students and faculty. Moreover, annually, there’s a Greek Week, SpringFest, and Shriek Week.

Sports teams at AUM are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and compete in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC). Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer and tennis; while women's sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, softball and tennis.

The women's tennis team have won ten NAIA national titles, including a five-year streak between 2004 and 2008. Moreover the men's tennis team have won nine NAIA national titles.

Notable alumni include Stephanie Reynolds, co-founder of HIP Haiti (a non-profit organisation), Khalid bin Sultan, Saudi royal family member and former defense official, and Perry O. Hooper, Jr., a former Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives.
